Idea people are creative problem solvers. They are the ones determining ways to fit square pegs into round holes. An idea person is actually considered to be a demonstrable skill set and is in growing demand by companies. They are typically defined as someone who simply comes up with the good ideas. While everyone else is working on a current issue, ideators are on to solving the next. Also known as conceptualists, they are people that create processes that pass on ideas and inventions to others - in order to help sell, or publicize a commodity. They are solutions people, problem solvers and empower a think tank mentality.
A change agent, or agent of change, is someone who promotes and enables change to happen within any group, organization, or company. In business, a change agent is an individual who promotes and supports a new way of doing something within the company, whether it's the use of a new process, the adoption of a new management structure, or the transformation of an old business model into a new one.
Strategists in many ways are professional opportunists. They find the best opportunity, create a plan to take advantage of it and source/plan/direct/implement resources to make the biggest impact possible. A strategist also develops and implements a client's strategy. They identify and determine creative solutions to improve a business and use knowledge of business administration and finance to enhance the overall success of the organization.
An innovator is a person who introduces something new in terms of a product, service, process, model, or an idea into the market. Innovation is an essential component in all sectors, as it adds value and creates change in an existing service or product - while also leading to the creation of new products. Innovation is derived due to technological changes, new markets, new knowledge and economic changes. Some of the skills required for innovators include creative thinking and the need for carrying out experiments.
An entrepreneur is a person who converts great ideas into business opportunities. It involves a lot of risk-taking hence most entrepreneurs are risk-averse. Most entrepreneurs are innovative or take advantage of an innovation that is currently in the market. For any entrepreneur, leadership, commitment, hard-work, risk-averse, perseverance, resilience, managerial and also planning abilities are some of the skill sets that any great entrepreneur requires.
While innovators introduce something new in terms of a product, service, process, model or an idea into the markets, entrepreneurs convert great ideas into business opportunities. Both innovators and entrepreneurs are important in all aspects as they are interdependent and neither of them can thrive without the other.
An entrepreneur-in-residence was once found mostly at venture capital firms, but the role has expanded and you can now find them at a variety of companies - including tech companies, startups, fortune 500 co's, and large organizations. Traditionally, EiRs worked with VCs to scout and vet investment, but nowadays the idea is to intentionally leverage their experience for outreach to into the entrepreneurial community. The task being to bring the perspective of the entrepreneur to the corporate, institutional, academic, or organizational world.
